ABOUT OUR COLLECTION
In alignment with the mission of Holy Family Academy, which aims to foster an environment where students grow into holistic individuals through quality Catholic education and Christian values, the High School Instructional Media Center (IMC) is guided by the following collection development objectives:
Provide a robust, balanced collection that directly supports the instructional, research, and learning needs of our high school community.
Maintain updated, relevant, and engaging resources to empower students and faculty in achieving academic excellence.
Build and sustain an organized, functional collection of print and multimedia materials.
Ensure all resources are systematically arranged and easily accessible for maximum daily use.
Conduct regular collection reviews and evaluations to keep our library contents current, functional, and aligned with curriculum standards.
Organization of the Collection
The High School IMC utilizes the Dewey Decimal Classification System to categorize all library holdings. We operate on an open-shelf system, allowing students and faculty to freely browse, explore, and select materials directly from the stacks.
Circulation & Reserve
Our main collection includes a wide range of subject areas and recommended titles selected by teachers to support classroom learning.
Circulation Books: These core reading materials span all academic subjects taught in our high school curriculum. Books are arranged sequentially on open stacks by their Dewey Decimal call numbers. Students may borrow up to five (5) circulation books for three (3) days, with the option to renew for another three (3) days provided no other user has placed a hold on them.
Reserve Books: These consist of required class readings, textbooks, and teacher-designated references. To ensure equal access, reserve items may be checked out for one (1) class period or overnight, subject to availability.
Reference Section
The Reference Section offers a comprehensive selection of standard research tools, including:
Dictionaries: Guidebooks for word definitions, origins, proper usage, pronunciations, and synonyms.
Encyclopedias: Multi-volume sets and single guides providing foundational overview on topics across all fields of study.
Geographical Resources: Atlases, maps, and gazetteers for geographic and spatial research.
Yearbooks & Almanacs: Annual compilations featuring historical facts, timelines, and statistical data.
Biographical Works: Detailed life accounts and biographical profiles of notable historical and modern figures.
Handbooks & Manuals: Practical step-by-step guides and reference handbooks for specific activities or subjects.
Directories: Information listings for academic, civic, and professional organizations.
Indexes & Guides: Finding tools that assist researchers in locating specific articles and source documents.
Filipiniana Collection
The Filipiniana collection gathers works written by Filipino authors, publications printed in the Philippines, or materials focusing on Philippine history, culture, government, and society.
Filipiniana Reference: Standard reference volumes specifically dedicated to Philippine history and culture.
Rizaliana Collection: Specialized materials dedicated to the life, literary works, and historical impact of Dr. José Rizal.
Filipiniana Circulation: Duplicate copies of Philippine-focused books available for home check-out.
Vertical Files: A collection of unbound resources, including informative brochures, historical pamphlets, and clipping files.

Our Fiction collection features a diverse selection of young adult novels, classic literature, and contemporary stories organized by popular literary genres to support recreational reading and foster a lifelong love for literature:

Comedy & Humor: Lighthearted, witty, and entertaining books designed to bring laughter and light reading to students.
Family & Coming-of-Age: Relatable stories highlighting domestic life, personal growth, emotional development, and deep family dynamics.
Fantasy: Imaginative tales featuring magical realms, mythical creatures, world-building, and epic lore.

Periodicals
The Periodicals Section contains current local and national newspapers, educational magazines, and professional journals. Current issues are featured on open display racks, while past issues are archived systematically for research reference.
