High School Department

CIRCULATION

CIRCULATION- is responsible for the processing of library materials being borrowed and returned by the library patrons.

Other functions of this section are:

    • application and renewals of borrower’s ID
    • issuance of clearance for those who are seeking honorable dismissal and dropping
    • preparation of overdue notices to borrowers
    • preparation of statistics of library users

Reserve & Textbooks are placed in this section. They are charged out by the hour or period and can be borrowed overnight starting 5 PM and must be returned at recess time the following class day.

REFERENCE — this part of the library emphasizes informational or general references such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, etc.

This contains non-print materials such as CDs, VCDs, VHS Tapes, cassette tapes, Transparencies, Slides, Maps, Posters, Pictures, Charts, and equipment such as TV, DVD/VCD/VHS Players, Slide/OH Projectors, Cassette Players, etc

TECHNICAL SERVICE UNIT (TSU)— this is responsible for the acquisition and classification of the library materials. This is where the logical organization and management of the library materials take place for the benefit of the information seekers.

FICTION/ READING CORNER

FICTION/ READING CORNER – it houses a wide range of fiction books from top international publishers. It contains trade books of varying levels and genres so that students’ differing needs shall be addressed. The books are also arranged according to Dewey Decimal Classification System. This guides students on which shelf to go to every time they visit the Reading Center.

    • Books provided at the Reading Center include serials and series.

Serials

    • Include books with stories that have the same characters, but each book contains a story that can stand on its own like Geronimo Stilton and Goosebumps.

Library Services

  1. Instructional Services such as reader’s guidance, user orientation program, hands-on demonstration.
  2. Technical Services including selection, and ordering of materials, catalog, binding, processing, etc.

    • Research services are divided into three kinds:
      • Reference Service- this is providing answers to inquiries regarding bibliographical research and other research problems
      • Reader’s Services- these are the advice or assistance given to a reader in locating a book.
  5. Recreational Service – newspaper/periodicals are provided for recreational reading.
  6. Outreach Service – accessibility of the library for outsiders particularly the alumni as part of its community service.

Audio-Visual Center

High School Department

The Audio-Visual Center maintains and provides a variety of audio-visual materials, equipment, and facilities for students, faculty members, and administrators. It is a part of the High School Library and is located on the 3rd floor of Pedro Calungsod Building.

Collections

  1. The Audio-visual collections are primarily designed to support the curriculum. AVC also strives to provide both intellectually enriching and entertaining viewing and listening options. All audiovisual collections are available for loan to students, faculty, and staff members and are welcome to make suggestions for additions to the AV collections. All such requests will be considered within the context of the purpose stated on the mission-vision of the school, with priority being given to material that directly supports classroom teaching.

Facilities

The AVC provides facilities for the use of audiovisual material in multiple formats and a variety of settings. It has four (4) Audio-Visual Rooms or AVRs and a Preview Area. In its efforts to provide equal opportunities for everyone, the AVC recommends the use of the AV facilities according to their intended function. The Audio-Visual Rooms can accommodate as much as 50 to 60 people. For a larger group, the varifold of AVRs may be opened to combine the three AVRs and accommodate 400 – 450 people.

Audio-Visual Equipment Loan

The Audio-Visual Center has a variety of equipment available for loan Priority for use is given to those requests directly related to curricular or school-sponsored activities.

The equipment generally available for the loan includes:

  • CD/ DVD/ MP3 USB Player, Portable Cassette Player, Speaker and Subwoofer, Extension Cord, LCD Projector, Overhead Projector, Slide Projector, Microphone, Wireless Amplifier, Screen, Karaoke, Megaphone, Adaptor, Laptop
  • (Students are not allowed to borrow delicate equipment such as laptops and LCD/ Projector.)

Use of Audio-Visual Rooms

Designed for classes that require the viewing of video recording or Multimedia presentation and for other school activities.
