The Link Between Peer Pressure and the Student's Academic Performance and Social Life
Abstract
This study was conducted for the researchers to know how peer pressure affects a student, how they respond to it and if there are anyways to avoid peer pressure. The descriptive research design was used to gather data and answer the researcher's problems by conducting a field survey.. Grade 8 students who are now experiencing adolescence where chosen as the respondents for this research. There were 183 Grade 8 students, the sample size from Slovin's formula, that were part of this research. This research was conducted on the year 2015. Out of 183 students it was said that 14% of the students always experience peer pressure, 77% said they we pressured at time while 9% never experienced peer pressure. From the research it was shown how the grade 8 students make their decisions, only 6% of the population do not give into pressure, 85% the majority of the respondents said their decisions are sometimes influenced by their peers while 9% of them would make their decisions based from their friends. The 15% of the respondents said they do not need the help of others in handling peer pressure, 66% said that they sometime need help while the remaining 19% really need help in handling peer pressure.
