Title
Attitude towards Mental Illness among Healthcare Professionals of a Public Hospital in Pampanga: A Descriptive Study
Abstract
Mental illness has been a pressing issue in recent years, with it making headlines on various media outlets and actually becoming a source of numerous casualties, this being evident in a World Health Organization article (2018) where it was stated that almost 800,000 suicides are recorded annually because of it; however, it was initially an issue that has long been stigmatized and discriminated before these recent years came. As seen in the latest report of the World Federation for Mental Health during the World Mental Health Day, Molloy (2018) wrote how people in the past that possessed adverse behavior and atypical attributes were pressed with stigmas. Moreover, she stated that society did not have the ability to deal with these mental health problems, leading to false impression and trepidation. Today, its recognition is still at fault, and it is because of this ambiguity that the researchers aimed to highlight this global phenomenon. Studies coming from different areas around the world exhibited mixed results concerning people's attitudes towards its relation to mental health and the holistic condition of each person. Clement et al. (2015) explored these varied findings with their study, claiming that on a number of non-systematic reviews, the subject of mental health is still not comprehended well. Be that as it may, this is not the case for the local setting of this study. In the Philippines, the Mental Health Law enacted by President Rodrigo Duterte boosted the acknowledgment of this matter in question. The primary statement of the Declaration of Policy expresses, "The State affirms the basic right of all Filipinos to mental health as well as the fundamental rights of people who require mental health services." With this allocation of present medical resources focused towards the general population, the researchers now concentrate on health care professionals, those who spearhead the distribution of these medical resources, and their attitudes towards the condition associated with it.
