A Study on The Influence of Family on the Career Interests and Decision of STEM Senior High School Students of Holy Family Academy
Abstract
Career plays a very fundamental and significant role in the life of the individual not only because they determine the pattern of income but also they affect the individual’s personality and concepts in life. In a nutshell, career is the totality of work one does in his lifetime and is person-centered it is of utmost importance to every individual as he or she prepares for the future. Why examine the influence of parents on career choice on young adults? In the past (and even now for many), it was assumed that an individual going through late adolescence would be developing their independence and slowly eliminating his or her family’s constraints as he or she formed his or her own identity into the larger world. This study is a phenomenological study that aims to know how the career choices of students in the STEM track of Holy Family Academy are influenced by the occupation of their Families given that the career path that students takes had a Long-term impact on one’s life and the influence could cause delays in the desired path these emerging adults. We were able to gather and analyzed our data through interview, audio recordings, post-Iesson reflection, and discussion. Based from the findings, family members look for factors in a career that will give the child job security, high salary or income, and definite success which lead to these fellow members to go for highly regarded professions. Our results in how family influences the career choice of students must not discourage family members in guiding the students in their career path.
