Title
A Phenomenological Study of the Effects of Social Media Likes to Students of Holy Family Academy towards their Self Esteem
Subject
Student Research
Abstract
The research revolves around self-esteem. Students, especially in their adolescence have improved self-esteem. As Zamani(2004) said, social media can be great for boosting self-esteem. Zamani did not mention if students are affected by the likes they received on social media. This Phenomenological study aims to observe the effects of likes on a student's self-esteem. The researchers used purposive sampling to get participants who use Facebook, the respondents came from all grade levels, two for each grade level. The researchers answered the research questions through interviews. The gathered data came from the transcript answers. According to the findings, like in social media does not matter. Likes are nothing, they are just numbers on the internet. Likes do not affect self-esteem. Self-esteem is not affected by the numbers on the internet. Gaining likes can make the same people feel satisfied. Likes do not have permanent effects on us, they only make us happy or delighted for a short period. Asking for likes make people look desperate. Likes are not worthy of being one's goal. Striving for likes is not needed. Striving for more of it makes mo sense because they are just numbers on a screen. We imply that Self-Esteem does not affect a student's self-esteem.
