Title
A Correlational study on Social Media Engagement and a student's Social Involvement
Subject
Student Research
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to find a correlation between social media engagement and social involvement. These factors were chosen because they play a big role in our developing society that is mixed with a hint of technology, like everything these days seem to be connected via the internet. Social networks have become much more than a way to connect about personal matters and school-related purposes which then makes the young people, especially students, more active online. If not all, probably most people make use of the internet as their source of new knowledge, which is why learning more about this topic can be essential for future educational purposes in the growing field of communication and technology. The research was conducted using stratified random sampling as there were no specific traits that were required. The study was conducted as mixed-methods research to find out and understand if there is a significant relationship between social media engagement and social involvement. Mixed method research integrates both quantitative (checklist) and qualitative (interview) for better analysis and collection of data. For the quantitative side, an advanced statistical tool was used to interpret the raw data gathered from the checklist of the respondents, which later revealed that there was indeed a correlation between the two factors (social media engagement and social involvement). As for the qualitative side, the data that was audio-recorded and transcribed were later analyzed and coded, the codes and themes revealed that people do get affected by what they see on social media applications, although sometimes the credibility of the things they see online is a hindrance, they still do get affected nonetheless. With the data gathered, it is safe to say that in the growing tree of technology, there is a relation between the two.
