“Title to Life: Illuminating Creativity Through Book Cover Making” 

Objective:  The “On-the-Spot Book Cover Making Contest” aims to promote a deeper appreciation of books while enhancing the creativity of Familians through a book cover-making contest. Eighth-grade representatives from each class will have the opportunity to illuminate their imagination and personal expression by designing a book cover inspired by a title that will be provided by the IMC (Instructional Media Center).  

 

Guidelines and Mechanics:  

THE COMPETITION 

The task is to create a book cover that is based on a book or title made available by the IMC personnel. Each representative must select a particular color scheme. They’ll employ during the contest. Random selection will be used to determine color schemes. Draw lots; you are not allowed to use any colors that are not in the palette.

MECHANICS 

  1. The contest is open to all bona fide HFA Grade 8 students.
  2. There must be one representative for each class.
  3. The IMC will provide each participant with a book title that is exclusive to them.
  4. Based on the title given, the participants must come up with their interpretation and design.
  5. The participants must randomly draw and design what they will utilize for the book cover.
  6. The design output should be made on a ¼ illustration board. 
  7. The design should be for the front cover only and should include the title and author of the book.
  8. The participant can use mixed media (pastels, crayons, watercolor, colored pencils, etc.) of his/her choice.
  9. The participants will be given a total of two (2) hours to complete the book cover.
  10. The contest will be held on November 25, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the IMC.

 

CRITERIA FOR JUDGING: 

The criteria for judging will be as follows:

Relevance to the Book Content

The design is properly aligned with the themes, characters, and message of the book. 

Creativity/Originality

The design is unique and opens new perspectives about the book. 

Aesthetic Appeal

The design is appealing and has satisfactory visual harmony. 

Appropriateness of the Design

The design is suitable for the target audience of the book and necessary for a positive reading experience. Proper use of the color palette given.
