Title
Awareness on Contemporary Issues to the Civic Engagement of the Grade 11 Students of Holy Family Academy
Abstract
Contemporary issues are - incontrovertibly, a part of the human race. According to educator and economist Alexis Estanor, contemporary issues comprise any event, opinion, idea, or topic in any field, and is related to the present world. It attributes to economic, political, health, or environmental issues which alter the daily life of individuals, either directly or indirectly. Despite the essence of identifying contemporary issues, many do not recognize its importance, specifically among the youth. As asserted in an article written by Daniel Francavilla, Founder and Creative Director of Now Creative Group and Founder of ACCESS Innovation, the youth is ignorant of the happenings in their surroundings. They are unaware or knows at least a few details regarding the societal occurrences, which may forbid them from aiding in civic movements. Sta. Maria and Diestro (2009) cited an investigation made for the Global Filipino Foundation in 2001 which deduced that the Filipino youth is heedless when it comes to cultural values and national affairs, specifically in political and societal facets.
