Title
Examination of the factors that hinder students from strictly observing Waste Segregation Policy
Subject
Student Research
Abstract
In Holy Family Academy (HFA), there is what the community calls the Waste Segregation Policy that is followed by the students for them to learn how to segregate their trash and impose the value of stewardship and discipline. The problem is that students do not strictly follow the said policy because of certain factors. The researchers would like to know what are these factors through this research problem; (1) what are the factors that hinder students in following the waste segregation policy and (2) how does the policy affect the students' behavior in terms of discipline and stewardship. The researchers used Simple Random Sampling to select their respondents and audio recordings to record the answers of the respondents to the interview questions. Through the coding and deep analysis, the researchers found out that laziness, lack of knowledge, and inconvenience are the dominant factors why students fail to follow waste segregation. The respondents also answered that the policy affects their behavior in terms of stewardship because it helps in separating biodegradable from non-biodegradable. But, one student answered that waste segregation is just a waste of time because when maintenance collects the trash, they only put it in one plastic bag. The respondents also answered that the policy is not stable. It shows from the responses of the respondents that the policy needs more improvement so it can attain its objective.
