Subject
Student Research
Abstract
In a time wherein several adjustments are made to adapt to the fast-paced development of society, it is only reasonable that modifications would have also been made in the realm of education. In the classroom setting, individual learning is the standard for applied learning methods, but in a world where the integration of communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity are needed. collaborative learning has begun to be widely practiced. The research is entitled "A Comparative Study on Collaborative Learning and Individual Learning Based on the Preference of Grade 10 Students and Grade 10 Teachers" which aims to determine which of the two learning methods best help the students broadening of one's academic knowledge. This is a descriptive design type of research that relies on the opinions of the participants. The researchers conducted the study in Holy Family Academy, an academic institution that applied collaborative learning in its classrooms due to the implementation of the K-12 program. Because Grade 10 students are given the most collaborative projects in the junior high department, and they are being prepared for Senior High School, 16 students were chosen through the Combination Purposeful Sampling to be the participants of the study along with four Grade 10 teachers for further insight. With the results of the interviews, the researchers determined that there are several factors and conditions in which either learning method can be more advantageous than the other. Based on the opinions of both students and teachers, each learning method has its advantages and disadvantages, and it is up to the student how they will make the most of their advantages.
