Labelling refers to the process of characterizing an individual or a group in a simplified way – narrowing down the multifaceted nature of the whole person and fitting them into general classifications (Haralambos & Holborn, 2013). From primary school to secondary levels, all students are grouped into sections. Along with every section, is its own label. In Holy Family Academy Junior High School Department, it is observed that every day, the students deal with these kinds of labels. Block sections divided by the average grade are found in schools worldwide, and this may or may not have an effect on the students. The current study aims to determine whether or not placing labels (i.e. regular, best) has any effect on the students’ viewpoint and attitude on school and the way they perceive their academics. Administrators and the like will get to have a better understanding on the perspective of students on this topic which may encourage them to take action to help motivate the students for school. The study follows a Phenomenological Analysis as design for this study and a questionnaire made by the researchers. The respondents are the Grade 10 students of Holy Family Academy, classified according to the labels “Best” and “Regular” sections.
